"Lest We Forget"
This page is dedicated to finding, recording, and preserving the history of the Brittain family.
I was given a family history by my Aunt, Ruth Leber (the same aunt who started me on my interest in collecting cameras). It was a handwritten list showing many of our ancestors on my mother's side of the family. I decided I wanted to fill in some of the gaps. This started me on my search for my roots.
It has now been about 30 years.
My interest is primarily with family history, rather than genealogy. Genealogy is the study of the descendants of an individual, whereas family history is the study of ancestors.
For those who would like a copy of my files, I'm afraid the news may not be good. Since I began this research long before computers were around, my data is on paper, and it fills about 15 file boxes. Also, much of my info is research that someone else has done, thus, the copyright rightly belongs to them. Without their permission to put the data on the web, I must decline.
Since I am not aware of any software for genealogy on the web, I will be putting the data in tables, with links that you can follow to successive tables.
I will be adding photographs as I get them scanned. I will place them as small black and white JIF files; this reduces the image loading time by keeping file sizes small (also because most older photos were b&w). Contact me at dave@dlbrittain.com if you need better quality files, or copies of the actual photos.
